WRFC 8 Badshot Lea 0
Reporter: Dev Grobbelaar
With the new year in full swing and our first game of 2008 just gone, who
could've expected the Pumas to play so well. We arrived at Badshot Lea knowing
that we had beat them 9 - 1 last time, but also heard that have been entered
into the Surrey Primary league.
Kick off and would you believe it we are 1 - 0 up after 3 minutes as Craig put us in front. After 15 min Craig is running a one man riot putting us 4 - 0 up and the coaches are stunned. Badshot Lea were praying for half time by now, but it was far from over. Tyler was not going to let anything in and a bit of quick thinking by the keeper, just before half time ensured that young Blaine Rooney opened his goal account for the Pumas. Half time and the boys don't even look like they have broken into a sweat. It was decided to give Craig a break and take Tyler out of goal.
The start of the second half and the boys were all over Badshot Lea like rash. 5 minutes in and a second goal by Blaine Rooney. By now it was clear these boys were not going to give anything away. Then it was the turn of our defenders to show there class. Firstly it was noted that Andy Hall made it clear to young Joe that you can mix rugby and football. As Badshot Lea's star player tried to get past Joe he just stood firm like a prop in rugby and put his body in the way sending the player one way and the ball the other. Stuart and Sam were passing the ball around creating gaps for the forwards, and out of nowhere came young Eliot like a child possessed running straight through the middle and scored number 7. By now we were waiting for the final whistle when Tyler turned and chipped the keeper to score a stunning goal......Thierry Henry eat your heart out.
Our man of the match Charlie. Turning up with a sprained ankle and playing as a defender in the first half and then in goal the second, was nothing but spectacular.
I think these kids are now starting to show the benefit of Saturday training, and I am sure we will be playing league football next season.
